Pupil Voice and Responsibilities
A whole-school approach means listening to the voices of everyone in the school community. This includes the pupils as well as parents, carers and staff.
Pupils can offer unique perspectives on what it is like to be a pupil at Great Bookham School and involving them in decision-making can facilitate a sense of empowerment and inclusion, promoting the Fundamental British value of Democracy.
As well as staff regularly listening to the views and wishes of pupils and conducting pupil forums on Safeguarding, Behaviour and Welfare, Great Bookham School has many groups in which Pupil Voice is a priority. We also give our pupils a range of responsibilities as they reach the upper years, to encourage their responsibility and teamwork.
School Council
Our School Council, elected by their classmates, is a group of pupils who act as representatives of their classmates in discussing school issues with staff and the School Leadership Team. Their ideas contribute to making the school a better place to be for everyone.
Prefects
Our Prefects are responsible for promoting our school and displaying all the values we represent here at Great Bookham School, through touring prospective parents and welcoming new starters. They also assist the Headteacher in events that need pupil ambassadors.
House Captains
Our House Captains are responsible for representing their Houses in team activities and work across the school to collect weekly House Points, which are announced and displayed in assembly.
Sports Crew
Our Sports Crew are fully trained to help engage children in play and activities on the playground. They set up equipment, assist delivery of activities and promote the values of leadership, resilience and confidence, in all children.
Buddies and Reading Buddies
Our buddies act as friendly and supportive faces to our younger Infant children, through helping them in the dinner hall with serving and clearing and through supporting them in their play on the Infant playground.
Our reading buddies facilitate 1:1 reading sessions throughout the week with our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children, helping them to boost their confidence and enjoyment of reading.
Eco representatives
Our Eco Representatives support us with keeping our School Environment a clean and safe place to be. They are in charge of litter picking and being conscious of the outdoor environment.
