Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our 8 and 9 year old children enjoy.

During the year, the children continue to present their learning in class assemblies and enjoy a range of texts in English, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in using and applying the four operations in maths and learn more about place value through investigations. Children use their science enquiry skills to predict, plan and record observations. Our topics range from teeth to changes of state to habitats. In History, we study The Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings, challenging the credibility of historical sources. In conjunction with our historical topics, our geography enables us become more familiar with maps and we learn basic orienteering skills. In computing, we learn to debug programmes and use Scratch to design and create purposeful algorithms.

One of the highlights of the year is our one night residential trip to Walton Firs in Cobham, where the children have the opportunity to utilise and develop their team-building prowess. They accomplish tasks in collaboration with one another, including archery, raft building and climbing.

Please find below the presentation shared with parents at the information meeting.
