Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our 9 and 10 year old children enjoy.
During the year the children enjoy a range of texts in English, including extracts from Harry Potter and The Hobbit, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in all aspects of maths, whilst developing confidence and fluency with their arithmetic. In science, we delve into the wonders of space, forces, materials, marvellous mixtures and life cycles. In history we study Tudors, Aztecs and the British Empire and our geography allows us to learn about Europe before exploring the key features of rivers and coasts. In computing we use digital resources to develop our presentation skills and to program using Scratch and Kodu.
A selection of workshops and experiences bring our learning to life including a visit to Hampton Court Palace, Tudor Day, European Christmas Day and a science day at The Lookout Discovery Centre.
One of the highlights of the year is our residential trip to Hooke Court in Dorset where we take part in a variety of team building and outdoor adventurous activities as well as further developing our geographical knowledge and skills with a visit to a nearby beach.
Please find below the presentation shared with parents at the information meeting.
