Attendance and Absence
Attendance
At Great Bookham School excellent attendance and punctuality is our aim for every pupil. The school attendance target is 96%; this is the minimum we expect for all pupils.
Full attendance maximises learning and parents and carers have a vital role in promoting positive attitudes to good attendance. Evidence shows that pupils who attend school regularly make better progress both academically and socially.
Every lesson counts and it is this commitment to learning that has a positive impact on attainment and progress. This table shows the impact of missing a few days of school can have over an academic year.

Illness
Parents often ask us if their child should be in school. If your child has a cough, cold or headache, without a temperature, then medical advice is to give them paracetamol and send them to school. The school has paracetamol and can administer with a parents/carers permission if more is required later in the day.
The school will always contact parent/carers if a child's condition worsens.
If your child is not able to attend school due to illness, it is essential you contact the school before 9.00am on the first day of absence.

Punctuality
Children are collected from the playgrounds at 8.45am every morning for registration. The school day starts at 8.55am. Gates to the school open at 8.35am giving your child time to be ready for their learning at the start of the day. Teachers record lateness in the registers and persistent lateness will be referred to the Inclusion Officer.
Absence
Leave of absence (other than illness) must be requested in advance to the Headteacher - using the form below.
